Ordo Cygni

The University of Canterbury Medieval and Renaissance Society (UCMRS) is a non profit re-enactment group interested in recreating aspects of European Culture from the Dark Ages to the Renaissance. We run steel-weapon martial arts classes, medieval arts and sciences classes, dance classes, and occasional tournaments and feasts. The UCMRS also studies medieval handcrafts including blacksmithing, weaponsmithing, leatherworking, weaving, embroidery, sewing, calligraphy, cooking and music.

Our legal name with the University is the 'Medieval and Renaissance Society'. However among ourselves and other medievalist groups we use the name 'Ordo Cygni'. This is latin for 'Order of the Swan', and is reflected in our club imagery, as can be seen to the left.

While we are a student run group, based at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, membership and participation in our events is open to anyone and everyone. In fact many of our members are non-students.

The date for the UCMRS AGM has now been set. more information can be found on the bottom of the Events Page
